Your origin city determines the closest Canadian port or border crossing and the inland transport distance to it. Calgary and Edmonton clients route through Vancouver port or Alberta border crossings. Toronto and Ottawa clients use Montreal port for US East Coast, or border crossings into New York and Michigan. Vancouver clients have the shortest route to US West Coast ports.
3. Your US Destination State
Your destination state determines the US port of entry, inland delivery distance, and applicable US state regulations. Delivery to coastal states (CA, WA, OR, NY, FL) is typically the most economical. Inland states (CO, TX, AZ, OH) add trucking distance from the nearest port, which is factored into your all-in quote upfront — no surprises on delivery day.

Is the quote I receive a firm price or an estimate?

The quoted price covers every cost in the door-to-door chain: packing materials and labour, Canadian inland transport, ocean or ground freight, origin customs, destination customs, and US last-mile delivery. The only costs that can change after quoting are items outside our control — such as additional goods added to the shipment after survey, or US state-specific delivery access restrictions discovered on delivery day.
Do I need to be available for a home survey to get a quote?
Yes — for an accurate all-inclusive quote, a brief virtual or in-person home survey is required so we can assess your actual shipment volume and identify any specialty items such as pianos, antiques, or oversized furniture that require custom crating. Virtual surveys take approximately 20–30 minutes via video call and can be scheduled at a time convenient for you. What is the minimum shipment size Enveo will quote for a Canada–USA move?
There is no formal minimum shipment size. Enveo quotes single-pallet and small-box shipments via LCL ocean consolidation or cross-border ground freight, as well as full 40ft container loads for large family homes. For very small shipments — a few boxes of personal effects — we will advise honestly whether a courier service or air freight parcel service would be more economical than a full freight forwarding arrangement.
Does the quote include customs clearance at both the Canadian and US border?
Yes — every Enveo cross-border moving quote includes CBSA export customs clearance at the Canadian origin (B13A export declaration, ISF 10+2 for ocean freight) and US CBP import customs clearance at the US destination (CBP Form 3299 duty-free household goods entry for eligible moves). There are no separate customs broker invoices from either side of the border. Duties and taxes on non-qualifying goods (new or unused items not eligible for Form 3299 duty-free entry) are the only customs costs that may apply beyond the quoted price.
Can I get a quote if I have not yet confirmed my US destination address?
Yes — you do not need a confirmed US street address to receive a quote. Providing your destination US state and approximate city or metro area is sufficient for Enveo to calculate the freight and delivery cost. If you are between two potential destination states, we can provide quotes for both so you can compare the cost difference. Your confirmed delivery address can be provided closer to your move date before the shipment is dispatched from Canada.
